Message from the Principal

Welcome to Schmitt Elementary! My name is Kaity Day and I am proud to be the principal here at Schmitt. Whether you are a returning Rocket family or joining Schmitt for the very first time, we are so glad you found us! Schmitt is a neighborhood school proudly serving downtown Columbus and is home to nearly 700 wonderfully diverse students in Pre-K through sixth grade.

As both a principal and a parent, I understand how much trust families place in a school. That is why I am so grateful to work alongside teachers and staff who care deeply for children, challenge them with high expectations, and always have their best interests at heart.

Schmitt is more than a school—it’s a community built on meaningful relationships, academic rigor, and a shared commitment to helping every child succeed. Here, students build lifelong friendships, discover their strengths, and are encouraged to grow into confident, kind, and capable learners.

Over the past two years, Schmitt has undergone a transformational whole-school renovation designed to create a more modern, engaging, and student-centered learning environment. We are so excited to open our doors to a newly renovated building that includes refreshed classroom spaces, updated learning environments, and collaborative areas designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and connection. These improvements provide our students and staff with spaces that better support collaboration, innovation, and meaningful learning experiences for years to come.
